Services - By Funding Source
Insurance Based Services: These programs are individually tailored to the specific needs of your child. Currently, there is a great deal of flexibility in the programming for which most insurance companies will authorize. Most CA state plans do not have a funding or age cap, and can include all non-academic areas of skill building and behavior reduction/replacement. Self-insured and out of state plans may have different limits. We will verify with your insurance company and discuss your options during the intake and assessment process. Coverage typically must be pre-authorized and requires both a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (or other pervasive developmental disorder) and a prescription for ABA therapy services. These can be on the same prescription pad.
Generally, it takes 1-2 months to get services running from the first authorization for testing.
TriCare Programs: Military families make up a large portion of San Diego County and our clientele. Those who work hard to defend our country have a highly flexible insurance program that allows all areas of skill building and behavior reduction/replacement to be targeted, currently including educational goals as well. According to most recent reports form the TriCare network, annual funding caps for services has been removed as of July 25, 2014. Please check with your FRO and EFMP representative for the latest information.
Again, it typically takes 1-2 months to get services running from the first authorization for testing.
SDRC Programs - Over 3: Regional Center programs are among the most limited service options, as they specifically exclude direct treatment of social skills and educational goals. These programs are typically limited to consultation only, or a maximum of 12 hours per week, per Regional Center guidelines.
Unless you are transferring an existing service contract, it can take 1-6 months to get services fully running from first contact testing.
SDRC Programs - Under 3 (Early Start): These programs are the most common starting point for families of children with extra needs who are born within San Diego County. These programs can vary up to 20 hours per week based on the individual's needs. Please note that a family can receive insurance-funded Early Intervention, in addition to or in place of Regional Center programs up to the age of 3. At age 3, services are transferred to either insurance or the Regional Center's Over 3 program. We offer services to families in both categories, and do our best to ensure a smooth transition between the two.
